Does your part need grinding?

Parts we grind most

  • Shafts and spindles
  • Pins and dowels
  • Bushings and sleeves
  • Die and mold plates
  • Rollers
  • Wear plates
  • Valve parts
  • Gauge components

Grinding works from datums. Tell us which faces matter on your drawing and we hold those first.

Cylindrical or centerless grinding?

Both grind round parts. The difference is how the part is held, and that changes the price and what can be ground.

Cylindrical grinding (OD and ID)

The part turns between centers or in a chuck while the wheel grinds diameters, shoulders and bores.

  • Grinds shoulders, tapers and bores
  • Keeps diameters concentric to centers
  • Best for prototypes and small batches

Centerless grinding

The part rests on a blade between two wheels, with no centers or chuck.

  • Very fast for pins and plain shafts
  • Excellent roundness and size control
  • Best for batches of hundreds or more

Where ground parts are used

Tell us the function of the surface. It decides the process and the finish.

Tool and die

Plates, punches, inserts and guide parts.

Hydraulics

Spools, pistons, rods and valve bores.

Machine building

Spindles, shafts, rails and wear plates.

Automotive

Pins, shafts and bearing seats in batches.

Medical

Pins, instrument parts and shafts in stainless and titanium.

Plastics molding

Mold plates, cores and ejector components.

How it works

You send the problem. We take it from drawing to delivery and keep you informed at each step.

  1. Send your files

Drawing with the faces to grind marked, plus material and hardness.

  2. We review and quote

We check stock allowance, datums and fixturing, then quote price and lead time.

  3. We produce and inspect

Grinding from datums, in-process gauging, then final measurement.

  4. We deliver

Parts with measurement report, oiled and packed so ground faces stay clean.

What drives the price of grinding

Five things decide most grinding quotes.

  • Tolerance and finishEach step tighter means slower passes and more measuring.
  • Stock allowanceToo much stock left after machining costs grinding time.
  • HardnessHardened steel grinds well but slowly. Some alloys need special wheels.
  • SetupShoulders, tapers and several diameters mean more setups.
  • QuantityCenterless grinding becomes very cheap per part in batches.

Questions customers ask

Something else? Email .

Can you grind parts we machined ourselves?

Yes. Many customers machine and heat treat in house and send parts for grinding only. Leave the stock allowance stated on your drawing, typically 0.1 to 0.3 mm on diameter.

Do you grind hardened parts?

Yes. Grinding is the usual way to finish hardened steel. Tell us the hardness so we choose the right wheel.

How do you check the parts?

Diameters with micrometers and air gauges, flatness and parallelism on a surface plate or CMM, roughness with a profilometer. The report lists the measured values.

What is the smallest order?

One part. Prototypes and repairs are common. Batch pricing starts at a few dozen parts.

Do you make the parts yourselves?

Production runs at partner shops we have audited for this kind of work. We stay responsible for the order: we review the drawing, pick the shop, follow production, inspect before shipping and deliver to you. You deal with one contact and one purchase order.

Where is the work done?

Where it fits the job best. Urgent work can run close to you and larger batches where the price is better. We tell you the place of production with the quote, before you order.
